Received the two Intel Xeon X5670 today! 12 threads per CPU! Let’s install them!

Hi everyone, Today, I received the two Intel Xeon X5670 that I ordered on Monday. These two CPUs replaced the previous 2 Intel Xeon X5570 CPUs. Below, I show you some photos changing the CPUs in my servers; the CPU specs, and running BOINC with them: Let’s Start! First, let’s remove the server cover. Here’s how it looks internally: Here’s where the CPU’s and RAM Modules are located. We need to take out the plastic cover: We can see the CPU…

CPU upgrades coming in the following days!

CPU upgrades coming in the following days!

Hi everyone, Today, I made the decision to upgrade my server CPUs. Currently, it runs using 2x Intel Xeon X5570, which are Quad-Core CPUs running at 2.93Ghz. These CPUs consume 95W each, and has Hyper-Threading, meaning each CPU has 8 threads. This means the server currently has 8 Cores and 16 Threads. In the following days, it will be running with 2x Intel Xeon X5670, which uses the same socket and are compatible with the hardware. The Intel Xeon X5670…

My new BOINC Crunching Machine

My new BOINC Crunching Machine

Hi everyone, Today, I’ll show you my new machine that I’ll be using to crunch BOINC tasks. The machine is a used Dell PowerEdge R710. It has 2x Intel Xeon X5570 clocked at 2.93Ghz. It didn’t had a GPU except for the integrated basic GPU, so I added the ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO that I was previously using as an eGPU (external GPU) in my laptop. The Intel Xeon X5570 is a Quad-Core processor with Hyper Threading. This makes…

ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO Overclock

ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO Overclock

Hi everyone, Today, I’m showing you my Overclock settings for the ATI Radeon HD 2400 PRO video card I’m using to run some BOINC Workunits. Yes, the GPU is old, but it still works, so why not using it to crunch some BOINC workunits and help in some projects? Yes, it may not be power efficient as newer GPUs, but again, it still works. Will I replace it later? Most likely yes. When? I don’t yet know, but possibly when…

Installing Windows 10 Creators Update to the UDOO x86

Hi everyone, Today, I’ll show you a video where I’m installing Windows 10 Creators Update (build 15063) to the UDOO x86. Installing Windows 10 is very easy and while the setup took some time to finish, Windows 10 runs very nice on this board. In fact, I used the UDOO x86 to do the ArduBOINC project you can see by clicking here. One recommendation is that if you plan on installing big software later, like Visual Studio 2017, I recommend you…
