Burning the PlexDisc DVD+R Disc on the Optiarc AD-7740H
Hi everyone,
Today, we’ll see how well the PlexDisc DVD+R discs that I showed you yesterday burns in the Optiarc AD-7740H.
This is a drive I took out from a Lenovo laptop that’s now part of my optical drive collection.
I already have an Optiarc AD-7561A from a very old HP laptop, so this is actually my 2nd Optiarc drive.
We will be using ImgBurn to perform the writing and verification. It reports the media code to be OPTODISC-R16-00 and supports writing at up to 8x here.
The drive burned the disc using a CAV strategy, starting at about 3.3x and gradually going up until reaching 8x:
The disc was burned and verified successfully:
The disc surface looks very smooth, with no “donut rings”:
Quality Scans
We’ll now see how well the disc burned in this drive by doing a surface quality scan on several drives.

The disc was scanned at 4x:

Optiarc AD-7740H
The drive seem to only allow scans at 6x and 8x. Here’s the 6x scan:
And here’s the 8x scan:
Samsung SN-208AB
The disc was scanned at 4x:
From all of the tests ago, we get the lowest PIE on the Samsung drive. The PIF were almost equal on all of the drives.
Conclusion
These discs seem to be reliable. The Optiarc drive managed to burn and verify it without any issues and the scans were really good on all drives. I’ll continue testing these discs on my other drives to see how well they burn.
